Throughout the semester, you will write and share three reflective writings to our ECT Slack channel on or before the dates listed in the chart below (feel free to post more often if you wish!)
These dates are intentionally two days before our group check in so that Chrissy and Maaike can determine if there might be topics that we can discuss as group.
Please share via Slack #ect_internships channel OR- if you prefer to keep them private- email them to Maaike & Chrissy (mb262@nyu.edu and chrissyglaser@nyu.edu)
Reflective writing should be at least a page in length, include a description of what you are doing in your internship, incorporating, when possible, images of your work environment and projects you are working on.
Here are some examples of topics and questions you may wish to write about:
What project(s) are you working on? (include its purpose and goals, the audience and setting for which it is being produced, the media and technology or software and applications employed, Who is working on the project, in what positions and with what skills and expertise, and where do you fit in?)
Once the foregoing is established, entries may be updated about the progress of the project over time, the work you do each day, and others' contributions.
What did you learn about your own interests, talents, likes/dislikes?
What about this experience might you want to experience in a future job? What would you avoid?
What did you learn from observing how teams work together on a project? How do managers lead? What could be improved?
How is this work organized and distributed both for individuals and for team collaboration?
What connections and comparisons can you make between what goes on "in the field" and your more academic ECT (and other "classroom") experiences? What is similar and what is different, and how so
Want to add your experience to a portfolio? We recommend you include your reflective writing in your portfolio as a blog post.. More tips and resources on creating portfolios here. See example portfolios here.

At the end of the semester, your internship supervisor will be asked to provide feedback on your internship experience. The evaluation is collected by ECT internship coordinator using an Evaluation form similar to this one. You will also be asked to provide feedback on the quality of the internship experience. This evaluation is used to help you identify strengths and room for improvement.
