All students:
Students must complete 1 semester in the ECT program before enrolling in EDCT-GE 2197.
Students can enroll in EDCT-GE 2197 up to 2 times over your time in the program.
Before enrolling, students must first secure an internship offer.
International students:
Please note that for non-NYU internships, international students must complete 2 academic semesters in the program before interning.
International students are strongly recommended to start the application process as early as possible to obtain work authorizations in time. See Work Authorizations (CPT) for more information.
For CPT, list Chrissy Glaser (chrissyglaser@nyu.edu) as your adviser, and contact her with any questions.
Feeling uncertain? We have had international ECT students successfully land positions with very strict document requirements (e.g. government), so we encourage you to go for the application if you are interested.
ECT-exclusive internships
ECT-exclusive internships come from ECT program's partners organizations across NYC and beyond that opens their application exclusively to ECT students.
Some Spring 2026 positions have been posted! More will be added on a rolling basis.
Note: We recommend starting by applying to up to three ECT internships. Chrissy will keep you updated on additional opportunities during the process, and you're welcome to apply to any number of external internships on your own.
Cross-listed internships come from organizations that want to promote their internship to ECT students, but will also open their application to a broader audience.
Students may also find internships on their own. If you have secured the offer on your own, you have the option of enrolling in EDCT-GE 2197 for your external internship. Not all external internships qualify for EDCT-GE 2197. Please contact Chrissy Glaser (Chrissyglaser@nyu.edu) if you have more questions about this option.

Most positions will ask for only a resume, but some also ask for a cover letter, work sample, and/or portfolio link.

If you are applying to ECT-exclusive or cross-listed internships:
The form will allow you to submit your materials (e.g. resume, cover letters) for up to 3 internships of your choice.
Do not reach out to the organizations/supervisors or send materials on your own. Chrissy will forward your material directly to the partner organizations.
If you are applying to cross-listed internships that do not use our form, or any external internship:
Follow the application instructions on each posting.
Once you apply, if you are considered a candidate for the position, the contact person at the internship site will reach out to you (usually via email) to set up a time to speak with you about the internship.
Sometimes there are multiple candidates for the same position, so please prepare well for this conversation. We encourage you to:
Ask thoughtful questions about the work and the organization.
Discuss any relevant work, academic or other experiences and skills you have.
Share what you would like to get out of the internship.
Ask if there is flexibility in tailoring the role or projects to specific interests you have (if any).
Follow up with your interviewer by sending a thank you note after the chat, briefly recapping your interest and experiences.
See the Interview section in Career Resources for more tips.
The contact person or Chrissy will let you know if you have an offer.
Note: some positions are competitive and an offer is not guaranteed, so we strongly recommend that you apply to more than one position.
If you do not end up with an offer:
Keep your eyes out on Slack and the database for additional ECT-exclusive positions posted on a rolling basis. You are also encouraged to apply for external internship positions (see Step 2 above).
If you do recieve an offer:

When I first got to NYU, I was afraid to reach out to faculty or admin for help, and I was not confident in my experience. But Chrissy listened to me and encouraged me throughout the application process.
I like my internship, and it's been really interesting to work with a dev team so that I can learn beyond just the design itself. When I started interviewing for full-time UX jobs, all of my interviewers were interested about my internship work... being able to answer their questions based on my actual experience makes me feel like a professional designer!
I was part of a team building a platform for high school students to learn neuroscience. I'm learning a lot of stuff from there, and it just feels like everyone's trying to teach me what they know, rather than only telling you to do things. One of my supervisors is focusing on development, and I learned a lot about technical development from him!
I applied to Berlitz since I liked language learning, but I wanted more experience with learning design. My internship widened my toolkit, and it was very helpful in landing my next internship outside of ECT afterwards. I’m so fortunate that our program has the ECT internship program.
Reach out to our ALT Associate Director of Experiential Learning & Professional Development, Chrissy Glaser (chrissyglaser@nyu.edu), who will support you throughout your application process. All eligible students are welcome and encouraged to apply for ECT internships.
During your internship, you will be meet regularly with ECT faculty member, Maaike Bouwmeester (mb262@nyu.edu) and your ECT peer intern cohort.
